<p>Nanjangud won the throwball competition and Periyapatna taluk were crowned as the ball badminton champions.<br /><br />Earlier, speaking at the inauguration of the tournament organised by PU education department and Badari Prasadji PU College, deputy director of PU education Krishnaiah opined that even though there is a shortfall in the number of physical education instructors in colleges, existing staff are making all efforts to give prominence to sports.<br /><br />Krishnaiah said students participating in state and national-level tournaments would provide them with plenty of opportunities.<br /><br />Assistant director of youth services and sports K Suresh said sports was essential to create a strong society. He said sports acts as a means to maintain peace at the international-level. Colleges from seven taluks of Mysore district are participating in volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, throwball and ball badminton.<br /><br />Geetha Shishu Shikshana Sangha secretary Vanaja B Pandith, joint secretary Prathap Kumar, president M Jagannath Shenoy and others were present.</p>.<p>Dasara sports: Meeting ’morrow<br /><br />A preliminary meeting of Dasara sports meet 2011-12 would be held at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in the city on September 5 at 4 pm.<br /><br />According to a release, Mysore superintendent of police Manish Karbikar would chair the meeting. </p>.<p>The national-level Dasara sports meet this year would include a range of events such as athletics, gymnastics, volleyball, kabaddi, hockey, kho-kho, badminton (singles and doubles), basketball, handball, table tennis (singles, doubles), tennis (singles, doubles), football, ball badminton, swimming, throwball, body building, half marathon and taekwondo.<br /><br />According to a press release issued by assistant director of the department of youth services and sports K Suresh, the presidents and secretaries of various sports clubs have been requested to participate in the meeting and give suggestions.</p>
