The walkathon will pass through Javagal Srinath Circle (Rotary School Circle), M N Jois Circle (MUDA Circle), Sita Vilas Road, Rama Vilas Road, Santhepete Junction and D Devaraja Urs Road.
.
President of the club Anitha Suresh said that when a woman runs a house with all her love and warmth, she turns it into a happy home. “In the process of taking care of her loved ones, a woman hardly focuses on her own health and well-being. If a woman is healthy and happy, her family, relatives and friends will be happy. Thus the whole society turns healthy and happy. So, to put women’s health into focus, we are organising the walkathon,” she said.
.
“Generally, in India, women’s health receives attention only during pregnancy. This comes from our biased understanding of women’s role in the society. Cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney disease, respiratory diseases and trauma are the major causes for suffering and death among women. According to the WHO, women in India have a higher life expectancy, compared to men, but they suffer from disorders like musculoskeletal diseases and depression. Social structures and prejudices also create an environment in which women’s health and well-being are further compromised,” Anitha pointed out. She said, “Evidence about preventive care among women is missing, due to lack of disease-specific data on gender differences. Gender disparities have crept into healthcare delivery and women’s access to treatment. Traditionally, much of the work by women is performed within the context of a family. As women move beyond traditional occupations nowadays, they face health hazards which add to the existing occupational hazards”. Anitha said the walkathon is an effort to create awareness about women’s health through their participation. “The registration fee is Rs 100 and prizes will be distributed among winners of the walkathon. Before the start of the walkathon, there will be a warm-up session. Experts on women’s health from Narayana Hrudayala Multispeciality Hospital will talk on the issue and will also interact with the participants,” she added.
.
DRC Cinemas, ada, Frosting, The Hobby Place, Kalarang, Kimiya, Sayoga and Silent Shores Resort and Spa, Hobby Place, and Basanth Convention Hall are supporting the initiative.
.
Call: 98800 59345 or 99452 79675.
