Odisha's troubled history with tigers from MP
Odisha, which has requested three female and one male tiger for the Simlipal Tiger Reserve, faces reluctance from the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department due to a troubled history.
In 2018, Madhya Pradesh had transferred a pair of tigers—Mahavir from Kanha and Sundari from Bandhavgarh—to Odisha's Satkosia Tiger Reserve. The male tiger, Mahavir, tragically died in a poacher's trap, and the female, Sundari, was controversially accused of being a man-eater and returned to Madhya Pradesh after 30 months.
Meanwhile MP wildlife PCCF (Principal Chief Conservator of Forest) Subharanjan Sen stated though a team of forest officials from Odisha is expected to visit MP next month, the state government approval is still awaited.
