<p>A demand for raising the number of polling centres in Raipur has been made by Raipur district Returning Officer and District Electoral Officer Dr Basavaraju S on Sunday.</p>.<p>Briefing the media, they said that there are more than 1,200 electorates in the rural areas in the Raipur district and only 19 polling centres. While in the urban areas of the district, there are more than 1,400 voters and 22 polling centres. They have asked for an additional 17 polling centres.</p>.<p>Assembly constituencies in Raipur district — Raipur Rural, Raipur City West, Raipur City North, Raipur City South, Arang (SC), Abhanpur and Dharsiwa — will see the second phase of polling in the state.</p>.<p>Elections in the state will commence on November 20 and results will be declared on December 11. Notification for the elections will be issued on October 26, while the last date for filing nominations is on November 2, scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on November 3. Nominations can be withdrawn by November 5, the officials said.</p>.<p>The DEO said that in the district, there are 16,44,870 electorates, out of which 8,38964 are men and 8,05646 women and 260 are third gender voters. he added that the district has 1,847 polling centres, out of which 774 are in rural and 1,073 are in urban areas.</p>.<p>Among the polling booths, 169 are in sensitive areas while tree are in critically sensitive areas.</p>.<p>The police have taken into consideration the highest polling recorded in the previous elections and the possibility of violence in the areas while marking the areas sensitive.</p>.<p>The District Collector has clarified that Section 144 has been implemented on the state so that the polls could be held peacefully. He added that under the section, no one can carry arms, including guns and sharp-edged weapons. Also, people would have to take prior permission from the Returning Officer to hold meetings and rallies. </p>.<p>He added that 80% of hoardings, posters and banners have been taken down, and the exercise would continue. Also, a ban on the use of loudspeakers from 10 pm to 6 am has been imposed in the state.</p>.<p>He added that the media certification and monitoring committee will take action if any paid news or propaganda is found circulating in the state. The monitoring committees will function round the clock in three shifts, from 7-2 pm, 2-9 pm and 9-6 am.</p>.<p>He said that two hardcore criminals have been sent out of the district limits recently, and around eight more would be sent away after completing the legal process.</p>
