Signal will soon help you transfer chat history faster and securely to new phone

Though Signal has been in the market for quite some time, but it came into prominence only a couple of months ago. In January 2021, WhatsApp revised its user privacy policy, which stated that the conversation and other personal details of the user who interact with a business/shop on its messenger app, will be passed on to Facebook ( & its subsidiaries) and third-party clients for marketing products on their social media platforms.

This apparently irked privacy-conscious users and critics and millions of people started moving to Signal and Telegram, as they were the best alternatives that had better user data protection protocols.

However, truth be told, Signal lacks several popular features we see in WhatsApp, and also its a bit of pain to transfer chat history from one phone to another and also, there is no way to restore old chat if the mobile gets lost or stolen.

Now, Signal is testing a new transfer feature that will reduce the complexity of moving the chat history from old to a new phone and also in quick time, reported Testing Catalog, a developer community.

The new feature is now visible on Signal beta v5.5.1 for Android. It is available on Settings >> Chats >> transfer account. Before initiating the procedure, make sure the new phone has a Signal installed.

Then, tap on the transfer account option and a new screen appears with instructions. Just follow them and keep the old and new phones nearby for faster completion of data transfer.
Also, the company noted that this procedure is an end-to-end encrypter and others can not deviate any data to any unauthorised device.
