On Sunday, February 21, at 1 pm local time, the pilot of an American Airlines reported a close encounter with an unidentified flying object while flying over New Mexico.
.
The audio of the pilot was shared on an aviation-space-military-intelligence blog in which he describes the object that he spotted. As can be heard in the 15 second clip, he says, “Do you have any targets up here?” We just had something go over the top of us that — I hate to say this — looked like a long cylindrical object.” He also described the object as a “cruise missile type of thing” that was “moving really fast” and "went right over the top of them"
.
The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed the reports but said that the air traffic controllers did not spot any object on their radar. “A pilot reported seeing an object over New Mexico shortly after noon local time on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021. FAA air traffic controllers did not see any object in the area on their radarscopes,” FAA said in a statement.
.
In a statement released by the FBI, the spokesperson said that the agency is "aware of the incident" but cannot "confirm or deny investigations." “While our policy is to neither confirm nor deny investigations, the FBI works continuously with our federal, state, local, and tribal partners to share intelligence and protect the public. Anyone who is aware of suspicious or criminal activity should contact their local law enforcement agency or the FBI,” Frank Connor, spokesperson for the federal agency, told CBS News.
.
In April, 2020 the Pentagon released three short videos which showed "unidentified aerial phenomenon" which the US Navy claimed as real. Following this the Congress had asked US Intelligence Agencies to provide the congressional intelligence and armed services committees with an unclassified report about "unidentified aerial phenomena."
