Speaking on Covid-19 vaccine, World Health Organisation (WHO) Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan told ANI that just because one is vaccinated does not men he/she cannot get infected again. “Vaccines are still very effective against every variant of Covid-19 in the world. It's extremely effective against causing severe disease and hospitalisation but not fully effective in preventing infection,” said WHO Chief Scientist.
.
Considering that supply of vaccines is less than demand, Soumya Swaminathan said that it must be used wisely and priority should be given to high priority groups, such as health workers. "It should start getting better in the second half of the year when vaccines are ramped up, but in the next couple of months, supply is less than demand and so we have to use the supplies wisely and prioritise the vaccinations of high priority groups, such as health workers and those with underlying conditions," she said.
