<p>Veerabahu is no Anaatharu. Nor can the hero named such come anywhere near the legendary M P Shankar of Sathya Harishchandra. Vijay is also not Junglee. But at the hands of a sensitive S Mahendar, the actor is putty, transforming into a raging monster in a second and then back to the unschooled, simple grave digger who is shunned by the village.<br /><br />Likewise, Nidhi is not Ambika of Pancharangi or the lass devoted to her lecturer cousin Ramesh Arvind in Krishna Nee Late Aagi Baro. For Mahendar has etched out strong roles for his lead actors while not neglecting his support cast. Perhaps that is one of the strong points of this story which touches upon invisible barriers of society that continue to be unbreakable. <br /><br />Veerabahu’s love story also does not play out in the usual manner. His interaction with Devi is almost venerable which is mistaken before it is cleared...<br /><br />A fine performance by Rangayana Raghu, who does not go overboard, Raju Talikote’s wry humour, Anant Urs’ intelligent camerawork and excellent background score by Harikrishna all embellish Mahendar’s screenplay. Yes, the film drags on but this Veerabahu is served up with all the correct ingredients.</p>
