State Youth Congress president Rizwan Arshad on Thursday filed his nomination papers from the Bangalore Central constituency.

He filed his papers at 1 pm in the presence of Home Minister K J George, Minister for State for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao and Shanthinagar MLA N A Harris.

Arshad, 34, was surrounded by an unruly crowd of party workers, who broke through barricades, while he entered the office of the returning officer inside the BBMP headquarters.

George, who was delayed by a few minutes, was forced to seek the intervention of a few police officers to enter the BBMP building, to be present with Arshad.

Criminal cases

As per sworn affidavits filed by Arshad, two criminal cases have been lodged against him. An FIR has been lodged against him in the Vidhana Soudha police station and another in NR police station in Mysore.

Assets

Arshad has shown total assets of close to Rs 3.2 crore, with no liabilities. He owns an apartment in Benson Town, which he bought in October 2013 at a cost of Rs 73 lakh. The property is presently valued at Rs 1.6 crore.

Another house in JP Nagar has been valued at Rs 80 lakh and has been inherited. Arshad has Rs 46 lakh in cash and Rs 6 lakh in his wife’s name. He possesses Rs 19 lakh worth of gold ornaments.
