A 39-year-old astrologer kidnapped a three-year-old boy to force his mother to marry him. Police safely rescued the boy and arrested the kidnapper from Azadpur railway station in north Delhi on Saturday.
Kishore Kumar Prajapati claims to be an astrologer and ran a rudraksha mala manufacturing factory in Noida.
Police said he threatened the woman that he would harm the child if she did not marry him.
The probe was initiated over the complaint of Rinki Devi, who stays away from her husband with her mother and two children at a rented house in north east Delhi’s Seelampur.
“Kishore had fallen in love with Rinki. It is alleged that Kishore knew about Rinki’s marital status and wanted to marry her, but Rinki spurned his advances,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar.
Rinki told police that she did thread cutting work at Kishore’s factory. On January 14, Kishore went to Rinki’s house and took her son Gautam to a nearby grocery store, but did not return.
After a couple of hours, Kishore made a phone call to Rinki claiming that he had kidnapped her son.
Threatened to kill
“He threatened to kill the boy and get her husband arrested in a fake case if Rinki refused to marry him,” Kumar added in his statement.
Rinki went to Kishore’s house in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar, but did not find him and her son there. She then approached Gandhi Nagar police station.
Her statement was recorded and a case under sections 364 (kidnapping in order to murder) and 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
Police teams conducted raids at several places and arrested Kishore while he was proceeding to Haryana’s Sonipat district from Azadpur railway station and rescued the boy safely.
“During the course of investigation, Kishore told police that his wife had deserted him and he wanted to marry Rinki,” Kumar said.
Police are also likely to book Kishore under section 354-D (contacting a woman to foster personal interaction repeatedly despite a clear indication of disinterest by such woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
