A 30-year-old BJP leader from Mizoram and his mother have been booked for allegedly mistreating three children at their home in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar.

A police officer told Deccan Herald that the statement of the minors would be registered in front of a magistrate on Monday, only after which a decision to arrest the accused would be taken.

Victor Talukdar and his 50-year-old mother Sinhadni Talukdar live in a DDA flat in New Ashok Nagar.

Victor had contested the Mizoram Assembly election in 2013 from Tuichawng constituency on BJP ticket but had lost to Congress.

“A minor boy, who happens to be Victor’s cousin, has said he was brought to Delhi from Mizoram by Sinhadni for providing him good education.

But the boy said he has been kept at the home as a domestic servant,” the officer said.

The boy told police that his minor sister and another young girl were also brought to Delhi a few months ago on the same pretext.

They were allegedly not fed properly, made to work for long hours by Sinhadni and at times, beaten by Victor.

The boy managed to escape from the house a few days ago after allegedly being beaten up. The other two girls also followed close behind.

The trio then asked a neighbour for help who informed an NGO working for people from the northeast.

Police were then informed who booked the mother-son duo the Juvenile Justice Act.
