Delhi Police will conduct a special recruitment drive in the capitals of eight northeastern states to fill 450 vacancies of constables.
Thirty per cent vacancies are reserved for women. This will be in addition to recruitment of 160 police personnel, 20 each from the eight states, which will be done by the state police recruitment boards.
It follows several initiatives launched by Delhi Police in the past two years for safety of people from northeastern states in Delhi.
“This is a golden opportunity for youths from northeastern states to join Delhi Police. There has been a massive response to advertisements and thousands are seeking more information,” a police officer said.
The recruitment team, headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), will camp in the capitals of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim for over a month. They will continue to issue advertisements in local newspapers and conduct examinations, while the state police will only assist in arranging logistics through their nominated nodal officers.
“The physical test, written test, declaration of result and medical examination will be done back to back so that candidates do not have to visit the camps again and again,” the officer added. The minimum educational qualification will be class 12 pass, while NCC ‘C’ certificate holders will get bonus marks.
The recruitment will be conducted in four parts – qualifying physical test, written exam, medical examination and police clearance. The qualifying physical test will include 1,600-metre race in eight minutes, 10-feet-long jump and three-feet-high jump. The written examination will be of 90 minutes having 100 maximum marks.
“No interview will be conducted and candidates on merit of the written test will be called for medical examination and police clearance,” the officer said.
A recruitment helpline number of Delhi Police is manned by police personnel from north-east states, while the state police will have a support helpline number in their respective Director General of Police offices.
The recruitment drive follows several initiatives launched by Delhi Police in the past two years. So far, land has been allotted for a special police unit and Toyota Innova SUVs are being used as patrol cars in areas where a majority of the people from the region prefer to reside.
“We also manage 22 WhatsApp groups for emergency assistance. Delhi Police officers are also sent on 10-day visit-cum-exposure trip to north-east states,” the officer added.
