Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy along with his wife Anitha performed special puja at Talacauvery, the birthplace of River Cauvery, on Friday. He prayed for the welfare of the state.

It is after 19 years that a chief minister visited Talacauvery. In 1999, the then chief minister J H Patel had visited Talacauvery and had later lost power. Fearing the loss of power, none of the chief ministers had visited Talacauvery over the years, it is said.

After visiting Bhagandeshwara Temple in Bhagamandala, the chief minister performed puja at Mahaganapthy in Talacauvery and Agasthyeshwara Temple.

Speaking to media persons, Kumaraswamy said, “I don’t believe in the superstition that one will lose power after visiting Talacauvery. The power given to us by the God will be protected by him. J H Patel losing power after visiting
Talacauvery was a coincidence.”

“I have prayed to Goddess Cauvery seeking her blessing for the people of the state and find solutions to the problems. After several years, all the four reservoirs in the river Cauvery basin are full. With this, water crisis in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu has been solved to some extent. The reservoirs in North Karnataka are also full and I will visit the reservoirs shortly,” he added.

Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar said that he has prayed for the eradication of poverty in the state.

“I am confident that the state will have good rain and crops,” the minister said.
