A Delhi police constable was stabbed to death and another injured when they intervened in a scuffle between a group and a youth in central Delhi’s GB Road late on Monday. Police have arrested three of the attackers, and apprehended a juvenile.
The incident took after a youth was seen screaming for help near brothel number 57 on GB Road.
“Three beat officers — head constable Baljeet, constable Vijender and constable Sandeep — who were deployed at a nearby police picket for the night saw the youth and intervened,” a senior police official said.
The victim, Irshad, 22, told them that four persons beat him in the brothel and they were coming to kill him. Soon, the attackers reached the spot.
“The officers apprehended a juvenile, while constable Sandeep tried to save Irshad from another attacker who was holding a electronic button knife,” the official added.
Two of the attackers, however, manged to flee after seeing the policemen.
Meanwhile, the juvenile, reportedly said, “Stab them, otherwise we will be caught.” Following which the knife-borne assailant, Suraj, 22, slashed Sandeep’s face.
After this, he stabbed Vijender, who was holding the juvenile, in his abdomen. Getting information, more policemen reached the spot and apprehended them at the spot.
Injured Vijender, Sandeep and Irshad were taken to Lok Nayak Hospital in an autorickshaw, but Vijender was declared brought dead. Sandeep and Irshad are undergoing treatment.
“Other two accused — Ashish and Manoj — were arrested later in their houses in Pushp Vihar and Karawal Nagar, respectively,” the official said.
Suraj, resident of Madangiri, works as a part-time car driver, the juvenile works in a mobile shop, Ashish works as a ticketing agent in a travel company in Connaught Place while Manoj works in a factory in Karawal Nagar, the official added.
Police have also questioned Irshad, who was reportedly accompanied by some of his friends. He, however, denies that any of his friend was with him when the scuffle broke out in the brothel.
