The order was issued by Judge Ravindra Babu while considering a petition seeking for a direction to award punishment under section 193 of IPC to Umesh, a doctor in the Forensic Science department in Thrissur Medical College hospital.

Soumya, hailing from Manjakkad near Shornur, was attacked on February 1 this year when she was travelling in the ladies compartment of a local train from Ernakulam to Shornur.
She was pushed out of the train at Vallatholnagar railway station on the night of February 1 by the accused Govindaswamy, hailing from Tamil Nadu, and raped on the railtracks. She later succumbed to injuries.

The petitioner alleged that Umesh had stated in the court, where the trial of the case is taking place, on October 10 that he had performed the post-mortem examination of the body of Soumya and not the head of the Forensic Department, Sherley Vasu.

Umesh had also alleged the report submitted by Vasu before the court was a "tampered" version of the original report given by him, the petitioner said.

The prosecution had earlier submitted the post-mortem report by Vasu as the concrete evidence against the accused, Govindaswamy.
