Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, who is also the chairman of the Delhi Development Authority, has asked the housing agency to make it compulsory for flat applicants to give details of their Aadhaar cards.
The move is aimed at preventing fake identity documents being used for filing multiple applications and attempts by profiteers to corner more than one flat for selling them at a premium.
Nearly 27,000 flats in Rohini, Narela, Siraspur and Dwarka will be put on sale in the first week of July.
Aadhaar is a 12- digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the central India.
This number serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.
Sources in Raj Niwas said that Jung, in a recent meeting with DDA officials, had highlighted the fact that the benefits of the new scheme should go to genuine home seeker and not those who indulge in malpractice of selling Delhi Development Authority flats for a premium.
“This, perhaps, would be the first time that the Aadhaar card would be used as an identity proof for a DDA house allotment scheme,” a DDA official said.
A bulk of the flats to be put on sale by the DDA in one of its biggest housing schemes will be meant for the economically weaker sections and priced around Rs 12 lakh to Rs 14 lakh.
The meeting called by Jung also focused on the application money that could be collected from flat applicants under various categories.
“No decision has yet been taken on that count,” a DDA official said, adding that the last time LIG flats were sold, the application money was Rs 5,000 each.
Criteria for EWS
The DDA is likely to relax the eligibility criteria for EWS flat applicants.
“This category of flats will be open to purchase by any person. There will not be any financial criteria to be eligible to fill the form,” an official said, adding that there was some resistance in the DDA against dropping any financial condition for EWS flat applicants.
The housing scheme will feature some 24,000 EWS flats and the other will be from LIG and HIG categories.
DDA Vice Chairman Balvinder Kumar stressed repeatedly that applicants will be encouraged to file forms online so that the refund, in case of non-allotment of a flat, could be sent directly to the applicants’ bank accounts.
