The Delhi University on Wednesday said that the admission process for the four-year undergraduate courses for academic year 2014-15 will begin from June 2.

The application forms will be available online and at 18 colleges until June 16.

In a bid to simplify the admission process, the university has done away with entrance tests for various courses and removed the additional eligibility criteria, which earlier varied from college to college.

Apart from selecting the courses of choice, the students unlike the last year will be able to mark their college preferences in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) form or online form, the university said.

The office of Dean Students' Welfare said that the notification of the first admission list by colleges will be put up on June 24. Students would get three days to complete their enrolment after the release of first cut-off list.

Up to ten fresh cut-offs would be issued by the colleges in case the seats remain vacant, the university said. The admission counters will remain open from 9 am to 1 pm but evening colleges would operate between 4 pm to 7 pm.

Those seeking admission through sports and Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) quota will have to apply at the college, where they want admission.

For over 53,000 seats in undergraduate courses, the colleges will consider best of four subjects for computation of the cut-off lists.

In calculating best of four aggregate, the colleges will include marks of the subject in which a student wishes to do honours and one language subject, along with two other subjects.

Two per cent marks will be deducted from their best of four aggregate, the university said, in case an applicant has not studied the subject in which they wish to major.

With Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) offering over 200 vocational courses, the varsity has relaxed its admission norms.

The students can now include marks of upto three vocational subjects in their best of four aggregate.

But the students will face a deduction of 10 percent of total marks in that non-elective or vocational paper, said the university media coordinator, Malay Neerav.

For students who wish to do honours in English and Hindi, it is mandatory for them to have studied the subjects in schools.

Similarly, the students wanting to pursue Economics should have had studied mathematics in class XII.

The admission criteria for honours programme in science and maths remain the same, the university said.

"The university will only conduct an entrance test for bachelor of management studies," said Neerav, indicating that the university has done away with entrance tests for courses like Hindi Journalism, Social Work and for honours in foreign languages.

The Delhi University will conduct open house on May 21, 22, 26 and 30 in North Campus and on May 23 and 24 in South Campus during which admission related queries will be answered.

This year, the university has slashed application fee for those selecting the online mode.

The online application fee is Rs 100 for general and OBC students and Rs 50 for SC/ST students.
