Delhi University has asked all its affiliated colleges and institutions to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31 by taking a national unity pledge and organising events celebrating his life and work.

Part of Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary celebration, Maharaja Agrasen College, has invited Gujarat Governor O P Kohli  to deliver the first Sardar Patel Memorial Lecture.
The university in a letter to institution heads on Tuesday said the varsity will be observing Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary on Friday with various programmes aimed at spreading the message of unity, safety and security.

“A unified time for oath taking across DU will be sent shortly,” the letter said. The university has also directed principals to send a brief report and photographs to the dean of colleges by November 3.

DU has also sent a copy of pledge to be taken by the students. It reads, “I solemnly pledge that I dedicated myself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and action of Late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure internal security of my country.”

The Directorate of Education of Delhi government has issued directives to heads of all government and its aided schools to organise suggested activities to commemorate Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary.

It has asked all schools to organise a special assembly in which, at least, two students (a boy and a girl in co-ed schools) speak about the contribution of Sardar Patel.
Heads of schools or special invitees will highlight the need to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the country.
