Delhi University is telling students how significant historical events played out in and around the Viceregal Lodge, which now houses the Vice Chancellor’s office, through a sound and light show. The first screening was held on Tuesday, and it will continue till Friday.

The 35-minute show, titled “Delhi University: A Legend”, uses evocative script and archival images to narrate how the impressive white mansion stood witness to 1857 uprising, the Gandhi-Irwin pact and the trial of Bhagat Singh. It also brings to life the romantic tale of Lord Mountbatten proposing Edwina for marriage.

“The show is unique for a university in India and possibility in the world, encourages the students to understand their legacy from the national movement and situates today’s goals of education in the context of national service,” DU registrar Tarun Kumar Das said.

According to the university website, Viceregal Lodge became the official address of DU in 1933, eleven years after the university was established.
