However, it is matter of pride for the people in the region that there is a motivator and guide, hailing from Kundapur, who has shaped 175 aspirants into civil servants through his institute Universal Coaching Centre (UCC).Upendra Shetty, a post graduate in Mass Communication and Journalism, is the mentor who conceived the idea of supporting youths to scale greater heights in civil services.

Born in a small village called Japthy in Kundapur, Shetty had big dreams and accordingly he set goals for himself. After completing the post graduation in journalism from Mangalore University, Shetty opened UCC in 1998. Noteworthy achievement is that two aspirants from his institute have bagged the first rank in the civil services examinations in 2005 and 2007.

A total of 93 aspirants, who were trained in UCC, have passed the civil services examination between 2001-02 and 2008-09. In the first batch, eight aspirants passed the civil services examination. In the second batch in 2002-03, the number of achievers increased to 11 and the Centre has a success record of producing 19 civil servants in a single year in 2004-05.

In addition, 82 candidates who had undergone coaching in Shetty’s institute have passed the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) examination between 2005 and 2009. Altogether, a total of 673 candidates, trained in UCC are currently working as heads of various Departments of State and Central Governments throughout the nation.

Speaking to City Herald, Shetty said, “we at UCC believe in fostering education for excellence and our endeavor is to promote quality training and guidance.” The institute offers free counseling to students on competitive exams. Insterested aspirants can obtain free counseling during the office hours. In addition, the institute provides information booklets and the management will help the aspirants in deciding their options and also update them regarding the latest trends in the exams, he added.

Shetty said that his institute has all facilities including spacious lecture halls, guest lecturer accommodation, seminar hall, computerised notes, audio tutorials, library and hostel. The institute organises regular seminars and interaction programmes with seniors, who have passed recently so that the students get a feel of practicalities and current trends, he said. The centre also conducts weekly exams and comprehensive exams every fortnight so that aspirants get used to exams pattern, he added.

UCC has a dedicated and operational website - www.uccbangalore.com, upgraded with the latest information and also cater to far off students. We upload model question papers, answers and other related data which aspirants may find helpful, Shetty said.
“We have a reputed set of faculty, qualified experts, academicians which any institute would be proud of. We have faculties from Hyderabad and Delhi so as to provide valuable insights to our students and provide professional coaching to see that the hard work and the efforts of our students are channelised,” he added.
