“My expectations about the next (Karnataka Assembly) election are terrible,” says freedom fighter and activist HS Doreswamy.
In an exclusive interview with DH, Doreswamy spoke at length on a number of issues, including the upcoming Assembly elections.
He says the duo of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will create havoc this time. “Their objective is to root out Congress [from India. Because that is the only organisation been here for a long time and it is deep-rooted.”
Doreswamy feels that once the Congress is eroded from the country, Modi and Shah will "buy" other opposition parties or they will surrender in front of the BJP.
Once the entire country is in BJP control, “then they can change the Constitution," he says. "They are already thinking about that.” The motive is to make India a Hindu Rajya, “where others will be secondary citizens.”
He feels that the BJP can be stopped only if all the democratic forces come together. “Then only there is a possibility of survival of democracy. Otherwise, I don't know if he will become a Hitler,” Doreswamy says.
He ridiculed the government-run subsidised eatery, Indira canteen, as a gimmick. "It's all for election. This will not be continued by any other government. Instead of this, give them (the poor) land, machines and training and make them stand on their own legs. That is the solution for poverty,” he says.
Doreswamy is turning 100 on Tuesday (April 10), but he is still keeping active. He is at the forefront of many social and environmental movements in Karnataka.
