The Gokak Falls is located on the Ghataprabha River in Belgaum district, Karnataka. The waterfall is six kilometers away from Gokak town.
According to the Mysore State Gazetteer, Gokak falls was discovered in 1885 by British explorers, who described the falls thus: “Except in width and colour of water, the general features of the falls, its height, shape and rapidity are very much like those of Niagara.”
The Ghataprabha river takes a leap of 52 metres (170 ft) over the sand-stone cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the rugged valley.
