A team rescued 17 children from computer recycling units in Nangloi, west Delhi leading to the arrest of four employees on Monday.
“The children were involved in the extremely hazardous job of segregating electronic scrap from computers, mobile phones and other electronics and were found to be working in an atmosphere where they were exposed to harsh physical environment,” said an activist from Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
The rescue operation was led by Pradeep Kumar, Punjabi Bagh sub-divisional magistrate accompanied by Delhi Task Force, members of Labour Department and Bachpan Bachao Andolan. Factories of the arrested employers were sealed.
The children were below 13 years and the youngest among them was six. “I was brought here by a man in my village. I detach the parts of this machine and I stay in the factory with my friends,” said the six-year-old. Most of them were trafficked from UP and Bihar.
