Triptyque Architecture, a Franco-Brazilian agency, has brought innovation to Brazil by building the country’s first sustainable corporate building based on positive energy concepts. It has built the first such commercial building in Rio de Janeiro, combining daring design with sustainable development and innovative technologies.

The building, named RB12, has contributed to the urban revitalisation of downtown Rio de Janeiro through a project called Porto Maravilha. An area of five million square metres has been processed to improve the living conditions of inhabitants and protect the area’s heritage. Located in Rio Branco Avenue, within the business centre of Rio de Janeiro, RB12 embodies an innovative new concept of sustainable development based on energy production.

It follows the global trend for green refurbishment which adapts and upgrades old buildings in order to align them with sustainable development criteria. The technology in use on the site has been set up for the first time and allows for the optimal management of water consumption and natural light, improving the wellbeing of the building’s residents.

RB12 has a bioclimatic facade, featuring a set of windows that play with light, and is the first commercial building in Brazil to use photovoltaic panels for its own electricity production. The suspended gardens on the terraces assist the building’s cooling and the thermal control of interior areas.

All these architectural high-end technologies contribute to the reduction of energy consumption and increase savings for owners. Natekko, the French market leader in sustainable construction, is the creator of this new concept of office building.
