German industrial and engineering giant Bosch has said that it would invest Rs 1,100 crore in India this year, across its 10 group companies.

The technology major has also bet big on the large potential available in areas beyond mobility, with plans to build its India business in the realms of energy, transportation, and smart cities, among others.

Addressing reporters at the company’s mega event Beyond Mobility 2016 on Monday, Bosch Managing Director and President of the Bosch Group in India, Steffen Berns, said, “Overall, Bosch has invested heavily on expansion. In the last four years, we have invested Rs 3,500 crore. This year, we will be investing Rs 1,100 crore, across the 10 divisions of the Bosch Group.”

Berns, however, said that the company sees huge potential in areas beyond mobility, and will be investing in them whenever required. “Globally, 40% of Bosch’s share is contributed by businesses beyond mobility, with 60% by mobility solutions. However, in 2015, the business sectors (beyond mobility) comprising Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology, contributed around 15% to the group’s turnover in India,” he informed, adding that there is a huge potential for growth here.

As part of the event, Bosch, for the first time, showcased its extensive range of connected and smart solutions in the business sectors beyond mobility in India, while drawing knowhow from the latter.

In the smart city segment, for instance, Bosch offers end-to-end solutions, drawing knowledge from its core expertise in mobility solutions.

“Customers are increasingly looking for suppliers who can offer them end-to-end solutions. Bosch is leveraging the combined strengths of its products to offer integrated solutions to meet the demands of customers across key growth sectors of India,” Berns said.

“Bosch is uniquely positioned to offer meaningful solutions by harnessing its expertise across hardware, software and services,” Berns said, adding that India benefits significantly from this aspect as it is home to Bosch’s largest engineering centre outside Germany, and the company understands the country’s local market requirements. Bosch offers connected solutions and services for smart cities, home appliances, smart manufacturing, packaging, construction, transportation, mining, energy and agriculture.
