The Bengal govt’s flagship industrial event, Bengal Global Business Summit, spread over two days, stretching to three venues, was inaugurated on Tuesday in Kolkata, in the presence of eminent industrialists and corporate leaders.

Reliance Industries chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani, while speaking at the inaugural session, said that his group – that has already invested close to Rs 45,000 crore in West Bengal, plans to invest an additional Rs 20,000 crore in the state, in the next three years. The investments will be in three areas.

Reliance’s focus areas include further enhancing digital life solutions. The group will add another 200 retail stores over the next two years. It is supporting MSMEs, and also providing national distribution reach to regional brands.

Third, Bengal will also have compressed biogas plants as part of its national target of setting up the plants. Ambani also talked about a project to renovate and restore Kalighat Temple in Kolkata, as part of philanthropic initiatives being undertaken.

Rishad Premji, Wipro Chairman, present on the occasion, said that Wipro’s presence in West Bengal is expanding rapidly, and there will be two campuses in the state very soon. An existing campus in Salt Lake employs over 10,000 people.

Besides, Wipro is developing a second campus in Rajarhat with an investment of over Rs 200 crore. The work is already underway. The new campus will have a centralised learning and development facility for training new recruits.

Dr Devi Shetty, founder and chairman Narayana Health, said that he is optimistic that a hospital for advanced heart care, care care, organ transplant, with over 1,000 beds will happen in the city within two years, and already an amount of Rs 1,000 crore has been earmarked for the project.
