DocsApp, a Bengaluru-based online doctor consultation company announced that it has raised a seed investment of $1.2 million from Facebook’s angel investors Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan, and Japanese venture capital firm Rebright Partners.
Interacting with Deccan Herald, Co-founder and CEO of DocsApp Satish Kannan said the funding will be utilised to develop and expand scale of operations, recruit talent and bring in new technology in the medical space to excel at user experience.
“Taking advantage of close to 200 million smartphone users and widespread network, our aim is to provide high quality primary healthcare services to people across India through our mobile application. It is estimated that up to 70% of the most common health issues people face can be managed online and doesn’t need one to travel for medical consultation,” he said.
Top notch doctors
Within a year, majority of DocsApp users have come from major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. With over 80,000 downloads, more than 15,000 patients take consultation using DocsApp every month. DocsApp has a pool of 500 top notch doctors in the country, who are available to connect with the patients for consultations.
The idea of the company was shaped up by IIT-Madras alumni Satish Kannan and Enbasekar D at its incubation cell and was launched in July, 2015. “We want our platform to be a one-stop place for primary healthcare and specialist care, catering to nine different verticals. Right now we have around 500 doctors spread across metros like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai,” he said.
DocsApp is available on Android and iOS and has 80,000 downloads. “Our solution doesn’t push patients to get appointments, travel or wait for doctor consultation for simple issues. Our doctors are quick enough to figure out if the issue is serious,” he said.
The company claims that the mobile medical consultation platform provides quality consultation for patients with fastest turnaround time of 30 minutes. Besides consultations, with a tap on the phone, DocsApp also provides services like purchase of medicines and lab tests at doorsteps with around 10% discount.
The company has onboarded 3,000 labs including business partners like Thyrocare, SRL diagnostics and Protea Health Services.
“DocsApp is designed to give the best experience to patients with complete privacy. Patients can chat with the doctor and also share pictures and reports of the ailment with the doctors privately,” said Kannan.
