Hatti Kaapi eyes global market for expansion

Bengaluru-based coffee shop chain, Hatti Kaapi, which sells about 40,000 cups of conventional filter coffee every day, aims to expand its footprint in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka.

“While expanding in India, we intend to make South Indian filter kaapi a global product. We have decided to launch in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, which is a strong tea market. By next month, we will unveil our first global store in Sri Lanka. We see this as a great opportunity for filter coffee and are scouting for a partner, rather than going for a franchise model,” Hatti Kaapi founder Mahendar U S said.

Launched in 2009, Hatti Kaapi sells filter coffee at 46 outlets and employs about 220 people. It plans to open 24 more outlets by May 2017.

When asked about the scope of  filter coffee in the said markets, Mahendar said, “Hatti Kaapi would continue the proposition of serving value for money even in overseas markets, and serve the mass which will be beyond the Indian diaspora found in abundance in countries like Sri Lanka and Dubai. After Sri Lanka, we will start operations Dubai, the US and Singapore.”
