The twin factors of traditional goodwill for India and the increasing focus on promoting trade among neighbouring countries will give a boost to bilateral trade between India and Myanmar, according to the executive director of Exim Bank of India (Exim India) David Rasquinha.

“There is scope for doing business with Myanmar in many sectors, including technology, energy and  infrastructure,” he said on the sidelines of a workshop organised here on Wednesday.

India runs a trade deficit with Myanmar that stood at $520 million in 2010, according to a study by the bank.

Rasquinha said that the government of India is actively considering $500 million line of credit to Myanmar to step up exports from India.

It had already extended $247.4 million to Myanmar’s Myanma Foreign Trade Bank, Rasquinha said.
