Renault announced Friday nearly 15,000 job losses worldwide, including 4,600 in France in a two-billion-euro cost-cutting plan over three years.

"This plan is essential," said CEO Clotilde Delbos in a statement from the French automaker which reported its first losses in 10 years last February.

The car industry is in an existential crisis from the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen sales plunge.
