Petrol and diesel prices fell marginally in various states on Thursday, particularly in the North East where Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh saw a respite from the sky-rocketing fuel prices. While many states witnessed a nominal decline in fuel rates, major cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata continue to bear the brunt of fuel prices.
Modi government is likely to slash excise duty on fuel prices with assembly elections scheduled to be held in five states beginning this month.
