Tata Docomo, which is a joint venture between the Tatas and NTT Docomo of Japan, has a pan-India license for GSM service and has so far launched its service in 18 circles including Karnataka.
According to Tata Teleservices Hub Head-South Yatish Mehrotra, the company has already invested $150 million (Rs 700 crore) in Karnataka and with the new investment its total spending in the state will go up to Rs 1,400 crore.
New investments will be used in creating active assets like exchanges, cable network and electronics at the site with a purpose to reach out to every nook and corner of the state. Right now Tata Docomo service has reached to 450 towns and 3000 villages in the state, said Mehrotra.
Mehrotra claimed that Tata Teleservices as a whole, which also has CDMA mobile service, has been grabbing the maximum number of new subscribers in the state in last three months. “Thanks to our quality offerings and transparency in billing we got almost 50 per cent of new connections from all operators in the recent months,” he said.
