The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday approved the full budget for 2024-25, sources said.
Following this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her seventh budget in the Lok Sabha.
Sitharaman, the first full-time woman finance minister of the country, has presented five full budgets since July 2019 and an interim budget on February 1, 2024.
This is the first budget of the BJP-led NDA government in its third term in office.

Highlighting specific initiatives under the Budget for Bihar, Sitharaman said that Union government will arrange financial assistance to Bihar through aid from multilateral development agencies.
The government also proposed Rs 26,000 crore for various road projects in Bihar. The Finance Minister said that the Centre will set up airports, medical colleges and sports infrastructure in Bihar.
Bihar also got the biggest share of the tourism pie.
The announcements in the Union Budget for Bihar are significant as the state will go to polls next year. Amid dwindling popularity of Chief Minitser Nitish Kumar, the BJP will hope that the new announcements will give much-needed push to the BJP-JDU combine in the state elections.

Shares of gold and jewellery retailers surged on Tuesday after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will reduce the basic customs duty on the yellow metal and silver to 6 per cent.
The reduction in basic customs duty on gold, silver and platinum has been a long pending demand of the gems and jewellery industry.

Stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty tanked after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a hike in STT (Securities Transaction Tax) on F&O (Futures and Options) securities.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped as soon as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman began presenting the Budget for 2024-25. But, within minutes it slipped in the red and later plummeted 1,266.17 points to 79,235.91 during the afternoon trade.
The NSE Nifty also ticked higher as the finance minister began the presentation of her 7th Union Budget in the Lok Sabha. However, volatile trends soon came in and the benchmark later tanked 435.05 points to 24,074.20.
The BSE benchmark had climbed 264.33 points to 80,766.41 in early trade. The Nifty went up 73.3 points to 24,582.55.

For promoting women-led development, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said the Budget carries an allocation of more than Rs 3 lakh crore for schemes benefitting women and girls.
"For promoting women-led development, the budget carries an allocation of more than Rs 3 lakh crore for schemes benefitting women and girls," she said.
Sitharaman said the government will set up working women hostels to promote their participation in the workforce.
The government will provide Rs 11.11 lakh crore towards capex for 2024-25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday.
The government is aiming to maintain strong fiscal support for infrastructure projects for the next five years.
1) Three cancer medicines - these have been exempted from basic customs duty
2) Mobile phones, mobile accessories - Duty cut to 15 per cent. Mobile phone industry body ICEA said that the move will enhance export competitiveness of India in the segment.
"We had recommended to reduce BCD (Basic Custom Duty) on mobile phones, its PCBA and charger/adapter to 15 per cent, which has been accepted. The mobile and electronics industry is elated with the announcements and will go a long way to enhance manufacturing, exports and our competitiveness," ICEA chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said.
3) 25 critical minerals which are to be exempted from customs duties; BCD on two of them to be reduced
4) The government has proposed exemption of BCD for ferro nickel and blister copper
5) The FM has also laid a proposal to expand the list of exempted capital goods that are used for manufacturing of solar panels.
1) Certain telecom equipment: The government has proposed to increase customs duty on certain telecom equipment from 10 per cent to 15 per cent.
2) Plastic products: Customs duty proposed to be hiked for plastic products; this has been done keeping in mind the harmful effect of plastic products on the environment.
After the budget presentation in the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha proceedings have begun.

Speaking on Union Budget, PM Modi said, "In the last 10 years, 25 crore people have come out of poverty. This budget is for the empowerment of the new middle class. The youth will get unlimited opportunities from this budget. Education and skill will get a new scale from this budget. This budget will give power to the new middle class...This budget will help women, small businessmen, MSMEs..."
Talking about employment, PM Modi said, "In this Budget, the government has announced ‘Employment Linked Incentive scheme. This will help generate many employment opportunities. Under this scheme, the government will give the first salary to those who are newly entering the workforce. Youth from villages will be able to work in the country's top companies under the apprenticeship program."
In Union Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Rs 15,000 crore will be allocated for development of Amravati as Andhra Pradesh's capital. “Money to be raised from multilateral funding agencies and routed through the Centre,” she said.
Besides, the Centre allocated over Rs 3 lakh crore for schemes benefiting women and girls and stated that it is fully committed for completion and financing of Polavaram irrigation project.
Sitharaman further said under the AP Reorganisation Act, for promoting industrial developments, funds will be provided for essential infrastructure such as water, power, railways, and roads and also grants for backward regions of Rayalaseema, Prakasam North coastal Andhra Pradesh, as stated in the Act will be provided.
Aandhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu thanked PM Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for recognising the needs of Andhra Pradesh.
"...Focusing on a Capital, Polavaram, industrial nodes and development of backward areas in AP in the union budget of FY 24-25. This support from the Centre will go a long way towards rebuilding Andhra Pradesh. I congratulate you on the presentation of this progressive and confidence-boosting budget...," he said.
Addressing a press conference after presenting Union Budget on Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam said, "We wanted to simplify the approach to taxation, also for the capital gains. Second, if anything, the average taxation actual has come down. When we say it is 12.5 per cent, because we have worked out for each of the different classes... But the point is that we have brought it down from below average to 12.5 per cent, which is the lowest if you look at several years, encourages investment in the market,"
In her post-budget press conference, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "The attempt to widen the tax net is something which we have been repeatedly saying... that India's tax net will have to be widened whether it is in the direct taxation and indirect taxation. Second, there are also now PSU dividends which are improving because the valuations have gone up really high and their performance has also now substantially increased. So, revenue mobilisation is not just tax-based, you have non-tax revenue mobilisations which are also coming up. For three years now, we have been talking about asset monetisation, which is not selling of assets but optimum utilisation of those assets which are lying in the form of unutilised stadiums or land which is available with PSUs which can be utilised for better purposes...,"
"I've already mentioned it in the Budget speech that Rs 15,000 crore (to Andhra Pradesh) is coming through the multi-lateral development assistance which we borrow from multi-lateral banks whether it is the World Bank or ADB or AIB. And, I had also ended that paragraph by saying further assistance will also be extended."
The 2024 Union Budget turned out to be a huge disappointment for Kerala as the southern state was not even mentioned in Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget speech.
Following the Budget Presentation on Tuesday, the Opposition Congress and the ruling CPM in the state launched a scathing attack on BJP for the alleged discrimination.

The government on Tuesday announced 3 schemes to boost employment through retirement fund body EPFO for new entrants in the organised sector with a total central outlay of Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
In her budget speech in Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "Our government will implement 3 schemes for ‘Employment Linked Incentive’, as part of the Prime Minister’s package."
The theme of the Budget was employment, skilling, MSMEs, and the middle class. The nine priority areas show a balanced consideration of the needs of various sectors of the economy, write Usha Ganapathy Subramanian and anjith Krishnan.
The first budget under Modi 3.0 shows a decline in allocation for expenditure on the salaries, allowances and facilities provided to MPs, as well as for sending Parliamentary delegations abroad and hosting their counterparts from foreign countries.
Though this would not mean a decrease in the salaries and allowances of MPs as it is governed by rules cleared by the Parliament, it may result in a decrease in the expenditure on Parliamentary delegations and facilities provided to lawmakers.

"We have given emphasis on women in this budget. It will bring about a change in mindset. Even in villages, women are operating drone. We had come up a special saving scheme last time. They had to come out to save money.
