Walmart India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Walmart Inc., on Monday announced the opening of its first business-to-business (B2B) Fulfilment Centre (FC) in Uttar Pradesh.
This is Walmart India’s second FC in India, after the first one opened in November 2017 in Bhiwandi, Mumbai, the company said in a statement.
With the objective of enabling small businesses to prosper, the FC set up in Sarojini Nagar tehsil of Lucknow district, will cater to the business needs of underserved small businesses such as kiranas/resellers, offices & institutions (O&I) and hotels, restaurants and caterers (HORECA). It will enable Walmart India to offer a wide range of merchandise and local assortment at ‘Every Day Low Prices’, 24-hour door-step delivery and convenient payment solutions to such business members in Lucknow and adjoining areas within a radius of 100 km.
The FC will create an estimated 1,500 direct and indirect jobs and boost the small/regional supplier eco-system as it will source merchandise from local suppliers to fulfill the needs of its members in the area, the company said.
Announcing the launch of the new Fulfilment Centre, Krish Iyer, President and CEO of Walmart India, said, “This Fulfillment Centre will further strengthen our B2B wholesale business in Lucknow and step up our B2B e-commerce model. This will enable kiranas, resellers and other businesses in Lucknow and neighbouring areas to get access to a wide & exciting assortment of merchandise without stepping out of their stores.”
