Assembly Elections 2022 Highlights: Congress releases 3rd list of UP candidates; includes 37 women out of 89 candidatesCongress, on Wednesday, released the third list of candidates for Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. Earlier today, the BJP also released the second list of six candidates for the Goa Assembly polls. Even as the ruling BJP continues to attack the Samajwadi Party over its affinity for criminals, the Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has now accused the BJP of fielding candidates with criminal background.

BJP CEC finalises candidates for remaining seats of UP

The BJP CentralelectionCommittee (CEC) has finalised names of party candidates for all the remaining seats of Uttar Pradesh. Till now, the BJP has announced names of 204 candidates for Uttar Pradesh polls. Names of finalised candidates will be announced soon.

A well placed source in the party said that CEC met on Tuesday to discuss the names of party candidates for Uttar Pradesh and after long deliberation names for remaining seats were finalised. "Names for all the remaining seats of Uttar Pradesh from where the BJP will be contesting have been finalised. About two dozen seats have been shared with our alliance partners Apna Dal and Nishad Party," he said.

Ahead of Uttar Pradesh polls, resignations begin from RPN Singh's district

The Congress candidate from Padrauna, Manish Jaiswal, has resigned from the party. He has also returned the Assembly ticket also.

He is the sixth Congress candidate to quit after his candidature was declared.

Kushinagar Congress president Raj Kumar Singh has also quit the party.

9 polling booths in Lucknow to have special staff

At least nine polling booths in the Lucknow will be operated by staff with physical disabilities.

This is being done to motivate and increase the participation of physically challenged voters, the district election officer (DEO) said.
Besides, Covid positive patients would be allowed to vote in the final hour of voting on their respective booths. Elderly or physically disabled voters who wish to avail postal ballot facility have to contact their returning officer or booth level officer by January 30.
A total of 4,018 booths at 1,526 polling stations have been built under nine constituencies of Lucknow district. Of these, 41 booths would be operated by all women staff, while one booth will be green -- facilitated with solar power.

Each polling booth would have four staff to ensure hassle-free polling for 11 hours.

According to the DEO office, there are a total of 23,050 persons with disabilities registered as voters in the nine constituencies.

Battle for UP: SP fields jailed ex-minister's wife

The Samajwadi Party has announced Maharaji Prajapati, the wife of jailed former minister Gayatri Prajapati, as its candidate from Amethi.
Gayatri Prajapati, an influential minister in the Akhilesh regime, was arrested in March 2017 on charges of corruption and rape. He is still in jail.
In its list of 39 candidates released on Tuesday night, the SP has given over 39 per cent tickets to Dalits and women.
