Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati, as chief minister, has always been lucky to have a loyal and dedicated band of bureaucrats who have helped her steer through the turbulent waters of Uttar Pradesh politics.
The bureaucrats, mainly Dalits, have shown unflinching loyalty towards her and have been a major strength in her success as the chief minister.
However, these bureaucrats -- now retired -- are moving away from the BSP and have no qualms in criticising her style of function and deviation from Kanshi Ram's ideology.
The latest in this line is retired IAS officer Kunwar Fateh Bahadur, who joined the Samajwadi Party two days ago.

Days before polling in Uttarakhand, the BJP has claimed that the Congress is trying to bring hijab in schools of 'Devbhoomi'.
The ruling BJP has already claimed that the 'Muslim University' controversy has been intentionally created by the Congress to polarise the minority votes ahead of February 14 Assembly polls.
The BJP claimed that the Congress is trying to make hijab a part of school uniform in 'Devbhoomi'. National secretary Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and in-charge of party youth wing in Uttarakhand, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga told IANS that if the Congress party came to power in Devbhoomi, hijab will be worn in schools.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has finally hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its attack on him regarding nepotism and dynastic politics.
"Those who do not have families cannot understand the agony of what the migrant labourers went through during the Covid lockdown. I want to say that only those who have families can understand the pain of a family. I am proud to have a family," he said in a statement.
Akhilesh further said, "A family person will not run away with jhola (bag) and leave family behind. During the lockdown, if the chief minister had a family, he would have understood the pain of labourers walking miles to reach their home."
Jailed mafia don and MLA Mukhtar Ansari is all set to contest the Assembly polls from the Mau Sadar seat district on the symbol of Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) from jail.
Mukhtar's lawyer Daroga Singh confirmed that he had submitted a plea before the court of special judge (MP/MLA) to allow Mukhtar's lawyer, notary lawyer, proposers and photographer to meet him in the Banda jail to complete the formality of seeking his signature and other formalities to file nomination from Mau Sadar seat. The court has accepted the plea.
Singh said that the SBSP has decided to field Mukhtar on its ticket from Mau Sadar seat.

Two BJP leaders, who have been denied tickets, have joined the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) to contest the Assembly polls.
Surendra Singh, the sitting BJP MLA from Bairia seat in Ballia, has joined the VIP, a new entrant in Uttar Pradesh's electoral politics, after being denied ticket by the BJP.
He has been named as VIP candidate from Bairia.
Bhupinder Singh Honey, the nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will be produced before the Jalandhar court by Enforcement Directorate on Friday after the expiry of his custody in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering case pertaining to illegal mining in Punjab.

The turnout in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls shows people are voting in large numbers because of the security extended to women and traders by the BJP’s double-engine government, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Thursday.
There are no riots in Uttar Pradesh, and crime and anarchy has stopped, he said.
"There is silence in the houses of those who used to indulge in riots and committed crimes as their countdown will start from March 11," Adityanath said, adding that several generations of those who indulge in riots will be made to pay as their pictures will be put up at crossings.
A heavy turnout has been seen in the first phase of polling across 58 assembly constituencies, he said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday held the BJP responsible for not only "distorting" history but also "destroying" Hinduism.
She also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi poses as 'Saint' only to garner votes.

Only 93 of the 1,304 candidates in the fray for the February 20 Punjab Assembly polls are women, and another two are transgenders, according to officials.
