New Delhi: Calling the BJP’s win in Haryana 'a win for democracy', prime minister Narendra Modi, while addressing workers at the party headquarters in Delhi said that if the Congress rejects the verdict, it is rejecting “democracy and the Constitution”. Congress leaders have questioned the verdict which is opposite to the indication of several pollsters.

“The Congress is trying to weaken the country by spreading anarchy, and therefore they are instigating different sections of the society. The country saw how they tried to instigate the farmers, but the farmers of Haryana gave Congress a befitting reply, showing that they stand with the country and the BJP,” Modi said, pointing at the Congress’s demand for a caste census.

Modi said that in the state’s history, since 1966, 13 elections have been held in the state. “In 10 of these elections, the people of Haryana changed the government every five years. However, the people of Haryana have done something remarkable – for the first time, it has given the mandate to a party for the third consecutive term,” Modi said.

He also gave examples of states like Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, which he said has chosen the BJP for two decades. “States like Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Tripura, too, have chosen us for three consecutive terms,” he said. He attributed the success in Haryana to CM Nayab Singh Saini and president JP Nadda.

He said that the people have voted the BJP to power due to its developmental works. “Haryana gave a hat-trick to the BJP because of the development works. The Congress, on the other hand, has not been granted a second term. Once they were thrown out, people put up a no entry board for the Congress,” he said.

Modi also congratulated the National Conference for its win in Jammu and Kashmir, but pointed at the BJP’s increasing voteshare. “Some people say that if Article 370 is removed, Kashmir will burn. But Kashmir did not burn, it is coming out of the era of curfew and separatism... We have re-established the spirit and dignity of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir. What could be a bigger tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar than this,” he asked.
