Doctors immediately provided first aid to Jagan after which he continued his ongoing Memantha Sidham bus yatra.

Vijayawada west MLA, Vellampalli Srinivas who was next to Jagan also received an injury on his left eye.

While Vijayawada YSRCP leaders claimed that TDP factions were behind the attack which they termed it as a heinous and cowardly act, there was no power when the incident happened in Singh Nagar area of Vijayawada.

Jagan has been on a bus yatra as part of his election campaign which he launched on March 27 from Idupulapaya in his home district Kadapa. The Yatra traversed Rayalaseema and entered coastal Andhra Pradesh a few days ago.

On Saturday evening his bus yatra entered Vijayawada from Guntur. Almost three hours after he entered Vijayawada and continued with the Yatra and as he entered Singh Nagar and greeted the public an unknown miscreant pelted stone at him.

Jagan's Memantha Sidham has been attracting huge and unprecedented crowds since the launch of the campaign. Police have launched an investigation into the stone pelting incident.

Former minister and Machilipatnam MLA, Perni Nani dubbed it as an intentional and deliberate act by Jagan's opponents and detractors who were unable to fathom the fact that he has been attracting huge crowds.

YSRCP leader Vellampalli Srinivas who was also injured in the incident said that when lakhs of people are gathering in support of Jagan Mohan Reddy, some miscreants saw an opportunity and deliberately attacked the Chief Minister.

The power supply was cut off at that time, and they seized the opportunity to carry out the attack. Chandrababu Naidu is unable to tolerate the overwhelming support for CM Jagan, as per public opinion, which is why he and his associates resorted to such cheap tricks.

This behavior is completely unjustified, and it is distressing to witness CM Jagan being attacked in this manner. Naidu should be held accountable, added Srinivas.

Prime Minister Narendra also posted on 'X' praying speedy recovery for the CM.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu wrote on 'X' saying that he strongly condemned the attack on Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and requested the Election Commission to initiate an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the incident and punish the responsible officials.

Tamil Nadu CM also posted on 'X', condemningd the attack on Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Jagan’s sister and APCC chief  YS Sharmila said, “It is sad and unfortunate that CM Jagan Mohan Reddy was attacked and he was  injured above his left eye during his election campaign today. We think it was an accident. Otherwise, if it was done on purpose, everyone should definitely condemn it. There is no place for violence in democracy. Everyone who believes in democracy must condemn violence. I am praying to god for Jagan's speedy recovery.
