New Delhi:  The Election Commission on Sunday advanced the date of counting of votes for the Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim from June 4 to June 2.

There is no change in the dates of voting for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in both the states, which will be going to polls in the first phase on April 19.

However, the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections will be held only on June 4 along with other states.

"The Election Commission is to conduct election to Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim before the cessation of their terms...The term of house of both the Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim is due to expire on June 2. In view of this, the Commission has decided to amend" the schedule, " an official statement said.

The EC had on Saturday announced the schedule for Lok Sabha elections and polls to four states, including Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh. 

In Arunachal, officials said, Rs 59 lakh in cash was seized from a vehicle in Lower Subansiri district, hours after the announcement of elections. He said the cash was seized from one Boa Terry, who was in a vehicle heading to Kamle district from Ziro

The IT Department is investigating the case as the Model Code of Conduct has come into force.
