Lucknow: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Sunday sought to dub the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) as "family parties", who were working to make their families rich even as he assured the people that he would not allow any one to "dilute" the reservation for the SCs/STs and OBCs by amending the Constitution.

Addressing election meetings at Etawah and Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh, Modi also reiterated his charge that the Congress was "eyeing" the "mangalsutra" of the women and people's properties to be distributed among the Muslims.

''Modi doesn't have children...Yogiji doesn't have children...then why are we working so hard?.....we are toiling for your (people) children....we want to ensure their progress,'' the prime minister said at Etawah.

He also referred to the remarks made by the SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav on the last day of Lok Sabha session before the 2019 LS polls that he (Modi) would return to power and said that though Mulayam Singhji was no more but his brother (Shivpal Singh Yadav) had recently said the same thing. ''The truth just came out of his mouth,'' Modi said, apparently referring to the faux pas at a rally when he appealed to the people to ensure victory for the BJP in the polls.

At the election rally in Sitapur, Modi raked up the reservation issue and said that the Congress intended to amend the Constitution to provide ''religion based reservation''. ''Congress included Muslims in the OBC list in Karnataka and provided them reservation....it wants to do the same thing across the country but we will never allow that,'' he added.

Modi also said that Congress, if it came to power, would conduct a survey of the properties of the people and would take away part of their properties to be distributed among the Muslims. ''They are now eyeing your mangalsutra'', he said.

He also sought to dub the I.N.D.I.A. alliance as ''anti-Hindu'' and asked them (his rivals) if they would ''demolish the Ram Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple with bulldozers'' if they came to power.

Later in the day, PM Modi held a roadshow in Ayodhya in the evening after paying obeisance at the Ram Temple.
