Kannauj (UP): Launching a frontal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that Modi, who has never brought up the names of 'Adani-Ambani' in the past ten years, has suddenly been mentioning them as he (Modi) was 'cornered' by the INDIA alliance and 'stared' at defeat in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

''BJP is going to suffer its biggest defeat in Uttar Pradesh....there is a storm blowing in favour of the INDIA alliance in the state,'' Rahul said while addressing an election rally at Kannauj from where Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav is contesting.

''Pichle das saalon mein Modiji ne Adani-Ambani ka naam nahi liya....ab jabki unko INDIA gathbandhan ne charon taraf se gher liya hai to unse guhar laga rahen hain ki mujhe bacha lo,'' (In the past ten years Modji never took the names of Adani-Ambani but now that he has been cornered by the INDIA alliance he is seeking their help), the Congress leader proclaimed during the rally in presence of Akhilesh Yadav.

Countering Modi's remarks that Rahul has stopped mentioning 'Ambani-Adani' in speeches as he (Rahul) might have received 'money in tempo', the Congress leader threw a jibe at the prime minister saying he might have been saying so from his (Modi) 'personal experience'.

Rahul Gandhi further went on to say the BJP is will try its best to 'deviate' the attention of the people through different means in the next 10-15 days. Thus, he warned the electorate not to fall in their trap.

''We must not get deviated...today, the only issue of utmost importance is to save the Constitution. This Constitution gives powers to the poor, the deprived,'' he added.

Flashing a copy of the Constitution, the Congress leader said that the BJP had made up its mind to 'change' the Constitution if it returned to power. ''We will never allow any power to change the Constitution,'' he said.

Rahul also accused the BJP of taking money from the Covid vaccine maker in the form of electoral bond. ''Modiji asked you (people) to clap and bang thalis during Covid....while people were dying from lack of oxygen. He and his party also took money from the vaccine maker,'' he said.

In the same rally, Akhilesh Yadav also addressed the audience and attacked the saffron party by saying that the INDIA alliance was poised to win the Lok Sabha polls. He further emphasized that, ''Those who break the society must be punished.''

Polling is slated in Kannauj on May 13 in the fourth phase of elections.
