The I.N.D.I.A. bloc alliance led by Jammu and Kashmir National Conference is poised to form the government in the Union Territory of J&K, which witnessed Assembly election after a decade following the abrogation of Article 370.
At the time of writing this copy, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) together with the Congress and CPI(M) have won 49 seats, crossing the comfortable majority mark in the region with 90 assembly segments. Exit polls had indicated NC-Congress-CPI(M) having the edge in Jammu and Kashmir and the results have shown a clean sweep by the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.

While the CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami won the Assembly election from the Kulgam seat in Jammu and Kashmir for the fifth time by defeating former head of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) member Sayar Ahmad Reshi by more than 7800 votes, the NC made a comeback, winning 42 seats, with a vote share of 23.43 per cent. The Congress has won six seats, with 11.97 per cent of vote share.
With the I.N.D.I.A. bloc set to form the government in the region, NC's Omar Abdullah is expected to take the reign of the J&K's first elected government after 2018 when governor’s rule was imposed in J&K.
