New Delhi: JMM’s Hemant Soren will be Jharkhand Chief Minister while Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday emerged as the strong contender to reclaim the post in Maharashtra after BJP made a stunning performance eclipsing its allies.
Soren’s appointment is a foregone conclusion, as JMM is the lead party in the I.N.D.I.A bloc in Jharkhand and winning 34 of 43 seats it contested in the Assembly polls.
The claim of Fadnavis, a former Chief Minister who was made deputy to Eknath Shinde, to the top post has strengthened with BJP’s winning 132 out of 149 seats it contested.
The BJP will find it difficult to explain to cadre if Fadnavis once again makes way to Shiv Sena’s Shinde, who was made Chief Minister after he split with Uddhav Thackeray and crossed over with majority of MLAs.
The RSS, which also played a key role in the BJP campaign in Maharashtra, will also have a say in the choice of Chief Minister.
However, the BJP will have to find a way to accommodate Shinde, who had helped the saffron camp to disturb the Maha Vikas Aghadi experiment.
