Jharkhand Assembly polls-Counting of votes

The Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 were held in two phases- on November 13 and 20- wherein forty-three seats went to polls in the first round and 38 in the second.

This time, voter turnout reached a record 67.74 per cent, the highest since the formation of Jharkhand on November 15, 2000.

The counting of votes began at 8:00 am, and the results will decide the electoral fate of a total of 1,211 candidates.

JMM is on track to secure a second consecutive term as part of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.

On that note, here are some key takeaways from the state assembly election results so far:

JMM’s spectacular performance in Jharkhand

JMM-led I.N.D.I.A. is 57 of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand. As of now, it has won 11 seats, according to trends available on the Election Commission's website on Saturday.

Loyal party workers have already begun celebrations, bursting crackers and distributing sweets, even though the Election Commission has yet to announce the results.

If JMM returns to power in Jharkhand, it will signify the deepened influence of the Sorens among the tribal communities, as they successfully mobilised tribal sentiments following Hemant Soren’s arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money-laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

How the key candidates performed?

JMM's Hemant Soren is leading from Barhait by a margin of 26,858 votes.

BJP leader Champai soren is leading from Saraikella by a margin of 24,202 votes.

BPJ's Babulal Marandi is leading from Dhanwar by a margin of 19,283 votes.

JMM's Kalpana Soren from Gandey is trailing by a margin of 6,862 votes.

Congress' Ajoy Kumar from Jamshedpur East is trailing by a margin of 35,170 votes.

Congress' Rameshwar Oraon from Lohardaga is leading by a margin of 34069 votes.

Janata Dal (United) candiadate Saryu Roy is leading by a margin of 26,680 votes against Congress' Banna Gupta in Jamshedpur West.

AJSU's Sudesh Mahto is trailing by a margin of 16,893 votes from Silli.

Sita Murmu (alias Sita Soren) is trailing by a margin of 38,052 votes from Jamtara.

What were the majority exit poll speculations?

As per the exit polls in Jharkhand, the majority predicted a win for the NDA. in the eastern state.

The Matrize Exit poll predicted 42-47 seats for the NDA and 25-30 seats for the I.N.D.I.A. bloc and gave 0-4 seats to others.

People's Pulse predicted 44-53 seats for NDA and 25-37 seats for I.N.D.I.A. bloc while giving 5-9 seats to others.

Axis MyIndia has predicted a 45 per cent vote share for the I.N.D.I.A. bloc and 37 per cent for the NDA in the eastern state.

JVC-TimesNow has forecast victory for the NDA with 42 seats and is closely followed by the I.N.D.I.A. bloc's 38 seats.
