In Karnataka election 2018, JD(S) candidate M.V. Veerabhadraiah won the Madhugiri Assembly seat after securing 88521 votes. The JD(S) candidate defeated INC candidate Kyathasandra N.Rajanna by a margin of 18574 votes.

After the 2018 polls, JD(S) and Congress formed a coalition government with H D Kumaraswamy as the Chief Minister.
