In Karnataka election 2018, BJP candidate Arvind Bellad won the Hubli-Dharwad West Assembly seat after securing 96462 votes. The BJP candidate defeated INC candidate Mohammad Ismail Tamatgar by a margin of 40487 votes.

The constituency had 27 third gender voters in 2018.
After the 2018 polls, JD(S) and Congress formed a coalition government with H D Kumaraswamy as the Chief Minister.
