BJP ahead in 85 seats in early trends in Madhya Pradesh
The ruling BJP was ahead in 85 seats and the Congress in 36 seats as the counting of votes in elections to the Madhya Pradesh assembly got underway on Sunday, the Election Commission said.
Counting of votes in elections to the 230-member state assembly held on November 17, began at 8 am on Sunday, a poll official said.
Postal ballots were counted between 8 am and 8.30 am, after which the counting of votes through EVMs began in the presence of officials and political parties' authorised agents, he said.

Rapturous celebrations broke out at the BJP office in Bhopal, while the Congress office here wore a deserted look on Sunday after the saffron party was poised to retain power in Madhya Pradesh with an emphatic win over its rival.
Amid the deafening sound of crackers, jubilant workers were dancing to the beating of drums as joyous scenes prevailed at the BJP office. Party leaders and workers were seen hugging one another and distributing sweets.
MP BJP chief VD Sharma also joined the celebrations. He too was seen dancing with party colleagues.
In stark contrast, the Congress office bore a deserted look. MP Congress president Kamal Nath and senior party leader Digvijaya Singh were in the war room of their state office holding discussions at the time of filing this report.(PTI)

PCC chief Kamal Nath while conceding the defeat of congress party in assembly election also congratulated BJP for their victory in 2023. In his ‘X’ account Nath said, with all humility we accept people's mandate to sit in the opposition and we will discharge our responsibility. However, the tipping point remains on how to secure the future of youths and farmers' prosperity in the state.
Nath congratulated the BJP and added that he will try to live up to the trust that the public has shown in him.
You all must remember that I never believe in seat projection. I always said that I have faith in the voters of Madhya Pradesh and even today I will say that I have faith in the voters of Madhya Pradesh.
We will take stock of the situation in a meeting with all stakeholders including candidates (winners/losers) after the final vote is counted.
