The main line-up of the contestants from this seat in 2024 is the same as it was in 2019.

The busy suburbs along the Western Line of Mumbai is located in the Thane district.

The three main contestants are Muzaffar Hussain of the Congress, Narendra Mehta of the BJP and Geeta Jain, who is a BJP rebel.

Hussian is the former Working President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

Mehta is considered close to BJP’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Jain, a sitting Independent MLA, was keen to contest, however, the party was against it.

In 2019, the same contest was seen, in which Jain won the polls defeating party’s official candidate Mehta and Congress' Hussain.

In 2020, when Maha Vikas Aghadi came to power, she extended support and joined the undivided Shiv Sena headed by Uddhav Thackeray. However, after the MVA collapsed and Maha Yuti came to power, she extended support to the BJP.

Jain was expecting a ticket, however, the BJP leadership preferred Mehta - making the contest akin to 2019.

Jain is former Mayor of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

When Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went to Guwahati during the rebellion with Shiv Sena MLAs and Independents, she was among them.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
