Mumbai: The campaign for the Vidhan Sabha polls in Maharashtra will gather steam next week when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, among others, address a series of rallies across the state in the do-or-die elections after the Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP’s star campaigners include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
In Modi’s rallies, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the chief leader of Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, who calls the shots for BJP in the state and Ajit Pawar, who is the NCP President, will be present.
The Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi will launch its campaign on November 6 when Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray share dais during the unveiling of their guarantee in Maharashtra.
Between November 5 and 17, the ruling Maha Yuti (NDA) and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (INDIA) will organise one to two mega rallies in each of the five regions -- Mumbai-Konkan, Western Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Teasers about what is to come during the campaign have already been released on social media platforms by six major parties of the two parallel political formations.
The list of star campaigners have also been released by the parties.
Most of the candidates individually are preferring door-to-door campaigns so that they can reach maximum voters.
Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
