Navi Mumbai: Accusing the Congress of attempting to push people into poverty, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that their leaders openly announced to give free cylinders to infiltrators - Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.

"Congress asks why the 25 crore people who have come out of poverty are getting free ration. Congress wants the expenses of these people to increase so that they go back into poverty. If the Maha Vikas Aghadi people get a chance, they will do the same in Maharashtra,” Modi said addressing a mega rally at Kharghar in the satellite township of Navi Mumbai.

“While they are questioning us on providing free ration to the poor, one of the ministers of Congress has announced to give free cylinders to Hindus, Muslims and infiltrators too. They are openly announcing to give free cylinders to Rohingyas and Bangladeshis,” Modi added.

“It's a prime example of how they are playing a game with the country and the future of your children to get votes. Therefore, we need to keep in mind that Congress is a pioneer in the politics of vote banks and they are also enemies of the poor. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the poor to stop Congress,” added Modi.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
